Introduction
Welcome to Junior Year! In our math class, we build on concepts previously learned, cover a lot of new material, and prepare for the ACT and SAT exams. My goal is to inspire you with my love for math by exploring applications for the content we learn. I am looking forward to sharing my passion of teaching mathematics with you all.
Classroom Structure
Math class is a place for fun, so as we work through content I expect that each student apply themselves fully to grasping the material and participate in class. I have one main rule and that is to RESPECT the classroom, our class time and our peers. Generally, students will be given a brief lecture on new material, then work in groups to practice their new skills. I expect that all students ask questions and participate in group learning and daily activity time. Individual assessments will be given bi-weekly and graded to help check for individual understanding. Students will also be given homework as needed and work on several activities and projects that will be outlined as we continue through the semester. Disruptive behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. Participation and effort earn a grade and count for 50% of your final grade.
Grading
I believe that in math correct answers are important but making connections between the topics we cover by developing reasoning to support your process is the biggest goal. For this reason, all assessments are revisable to earn half the difference of your original score and weighted as 40% of the overall grade. This means that if you earn 6 of 10 points on a quiz you may revise your work for a possible 8 of 10 points. Participation and effort during classroom activities and assignments make up 50% of the overall grade, and productive project work time will count for 10%. Additional assignments for extra credit may be available. It is important that students deepen their understanding of math so several opportunities will be offered to students to demonstrate growth in their learning. Students are encouraged to maintain an acceptable grade throughout the semester and revise their work when revisions are allowed. Necessary accommodations will be made to assist individuals with specialized needs.

Attendance/Late Work
In the event that a student is absent, it is their responsibility to get updated when they return. I expect that students get assignments and notes from me, a peer or from my DP. All work is due at the beginning of class. It is my intent to build a work ethic where students understand and practice meeting deadlines. Only late work due to absence will earn full credit. Math tutoring is available during lunch and X-Block. After school tutoring is available in the resource center Mon-Thurs from 3:25-4:30pm. I will also be posting detailed notes, additional practice questions and worksheets of all material covered in class on my DP, please use these notes as an additional resource.
